Design & Landscaping: Petworth Hidden Gem
"All our guests were incredibly positive and glowing about the garden … most people couldn’t believe it had only been completed last month, they felt it looked as if it had always belonged! We have even had more complementary email feedbacks this morning. Chris was in great demand explaining how it had all come together."
This delightful garden is situated within a Conservation Area at the rear of an Historic Grade II listed cloister style building in the heart of Petworth. Whilst it had a lovely feel, the planting and layout was tired and in need of a refresh.
The owners had decided it was time to reclaim the garden and change it to a space for them to enjoy. The days of children and footballs had passed, and they now fancied something with structure and softness. It was also important we kept the design respectful of the history and that we were within a conservation area.
Lady Penelope's team re-designed the new garden in the arts and crafts style and let the garden breath again. We enhanced and relaid the existing York stone path, reintroducing an old mirror as a focal point. New borders were planted, and a new lawn laid. The planting scheme was kept simple and free-flowing, giving softness to the new paths and features with walls soon to be swathed in roses and clematis.
With two lovely dogs to consider who had used the old garden as a race track, we created a separate garden just for them!
